An insect burger in Switzerland!

An insect burger in Switzerland!

It’s official: humanity is finally starting to consume worms. While insects have always been praised as the future of human food, the Swiss have finally integrated them, especially in a burger that looks delicious at first sight.

Insects are inexpensive and rich in nutrients such as protein. Better still, they are raised in an environmentally friendly way, with an ecological footprint four times smaller than that of beef, for instance. All these qualities combined with the May 2017 law validating the marketing of insect food products in Switzerland have led the start-up Essento to dig into these new foods. This makes Switzerland the first European country to sell burger steaks and insect pellets. According to Le Matin, the firm entrusted the sale of its insect burgers to the Coop chains, which launched them on August 21. The public can enjoy burgers made with flour worms that taste like nuts, rice, leeks, celery, spices and carrots from 8€. As for the insect pellets, they are sold 8€ for 10 and are composed of worms of flour, chickpeas, onions, garlic, parsley and coriander.

A combination of insects and usual ingredients that the Swiss have just discovered. We look forward to their return on these burgers and dumplings of a new kind. If they are delicious, they could really solve world hunger. Thus, food professionals will switch to insects to feed the 9 billion humans within 33 years. In all cases, Coop challenged itself to bring the most reluctant ones to consume these burgers filled with unusual ingredients.
